„Step in! Building Inclusive Societies through Active Citizenship“
“Step In! Building Inclusive Societies through Active Citizenship“ – this is the title of a new project, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Prof. Dirk Lange at the Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany.
In this project universities, research institutes, NGOs and adult education providers out of seven countries combine their competencies in the field of civic education, integration, and migration. The project consortium consists of organizations and institutions from Czech Republic, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Slovenia, and Sweden.
The project’s overall objective is the development of an innovative education strategy to increase political participation and civic engagement of migrants and ethnic minorities, and to promote active citizenship. The consortium will conceptualize seven different education modules, which will be tested and implemented all over Europe. The project accommodates the fact that successful processes of integration demand not only efforts by the minorities, but also further development of the host countries majorities and institutions. In this sense, the target groups of the project are (1.) migrants and members of ethnic minorities, (2.) members of receiving countries, especially stakeholders of parties, NGOs, public authorities, and (3.) adult learning professionals and providers.
The international kick-off-meeting took place at the University of Hanover, the 2nd and 3rd of February in 2012.
